This is the mystery of the quotient
Upon us all a little rain must fall
musings on a car window on a rainy day
lonely drops shiver
and shake,
slowly moving toward
one another,
drawn inexorably
inexplicably
together.
sightless, they find one another
without the benefit
of a common hollow or watercourse.
joining their comrades,
they coalesce
until
critical mass is reached.
then they quickly slide
away,
off the window,
to become lonely drops again.
lonely drops shiver
and shake,
slowly moving toward
one another,
drawn inexorably
inexplicably
together.
sightless, they find one another
without the benefit
of a common hollow or watercourse.
joining their comrades,
they coalesce
until
critical mass is reached.
then they quickly slide
away,
off the window,
to become lonely drops again.

Nice. How many thousands of times have I watched them do just that, and you found the right words to describe it. Now, to ponder the larger metaphor...
