Swimming East
He dives unseen,
knifing neatly
into the murky depths
of the vast, silent lake.
Earlier the water was
a rich aquamarine,
now it is
black
as
ink,
reflecting the starless sky.
As the shore lights fade behind,
and the icy chill
sinks bone deep,
the swimmer slices silently
through the waves.
The steady rhythm
of his strokes provide
immeasurable solace.
In this solitary pursuit,
there is
pure serenity
and
absolute forgetfulness.
Alone,
he is swimming east.
knifing neatly
into the murky depths
of the vast, silent lake.
Earlier the water was
a rich aquamarine,
now it is
black
as
ink,
reflecting the starless sky.
As the shore lights fade behind,
and the icy chill
sinks bone deep,
the swimmer slices silently
through the waves.
The steady rhythm
of his strokes provide
immeasurable solace.
In this solitary pursuit,
there is
pure serenity
and
absolute forgetfulness.
Alone,
he is swimming east.

I wrote that twenty years ago. I am still not sure what it means, but I sure do like it.
The beauty of poetry is that each person can get their own meaning out of it. I love this and can feel the serenity. I want to read more, so feel free to share.
Deep deep man on man love undercurrents, the swimmer is the man who swims though the sea of heterosexuality towards an island where he can lay naked and relax with other men. East = locker room.
Seriously though dude, have you heard the unreleased Exile on Main Street tracks yet that came out with the deluxe reissue a week or so ago? Some of them are pretty nasty guitar jams and some of them are long bass grooves that don't sound like Bill Wyman.
I have heard some of the Exile tracks. I like Loving Cup...
I am going to buy it soon.
New Stones with an old angle!!??!!
