I've got a feeling, a feeling deep inside
Oh yeah
I once had something that I enjoyed. I was young. Naive. I thought it was all mine, and only mine.
I'm so tired.
I wonder should I get up and fix myself a drink.
My mind is on the blink. It's no joke, it's doing me harm. You know I can't sleep. I can't stop my brain, you know, it's three weeks. I'm going insane.
You know I'd give you everything I've got for a little peace of mind.
I finally feel better. I went snowboarding on Sunday and just knocked it out of me. See, I located the site for the Big Air Championship, 2008. As the reigning 2007 champion, it is my prerogative to situate this year's contest in a Joe-friendly locale. So I did.
My first run at it, I shot it at a relatively high rate of speed and, naturally, I misjudged the landing.
The jump itself was a thing of beauty and grace. Without exaggeration, I went about 20 feet. I launched and soared like a magnificent vulture. For a second.
Exhilaration took hold as I realized the drop underneath the jump was much steeper than I had anticipated. Hence the 20 feet of air prior to landing.
And I use the term, "landing" liberally, and with utter disregard for the traditional usage of the word.
"Crater," "explosion," "napalm," "Nagasaki," "rag doll" and/or "ass-over-teakettle" seem more appropriate.
The best part is that I did it underneath the chairlift, eliciting cheers, and probably tears, of utter joy.
Happy New Year.
Bells, it's on like Donkey Kong in '08. I'm gonna fly like an eagle, let my spirit carry me... right to the Big Air Crown. Again.

Happy New Year, Joe.
Happy New Year form one who knows it is best to keep my feet near the ground. (No comments on my jumping ability or lack there of.)
I hope 2008 gives you all you deserve and then some.
Sorry to start it off this way but go Ilini
Nothing more spectactular than a chair lift crowd pleasing "landing." I remember I had one about 10 years ago that your description went as follows: " You were going great and gaining speed you dipped below the horizon and then you suddenly shot above it again only to disappear again a second later. Two seconds later every person on the chair lift from your point down cheered loudly." When I got up, I had rip in my coat and a broken pole. Fortunately, the ETOH kept me from really feeling it. That came later.
Joe, was going to email but thought I would just comment instead.
Were those skis you were on? What gives?
Anyone out there seen the movie Once? Rented it last night, probably the best musical movie I've seen since Singles, and it's better. Do yourself a favor and rent it. It's 86 minutes of pure job.
P.S. Hi Husker. I've seen you jump once or twice.
Eck- The ski pictures were old ones, from a few years ago in Colorado.
I was looking for airtime pics to go with the theme of the post.
(BTW, it's hard to tell from the picture, but the one where I am over the pine tree was pretty freaking huge. Ouch. I think I hurt my shoulder patting my bad self on the back.)
((Speaking of huge... Husker, you're friggin' HUGE and you know it. You can't coach height, mofo. I remember you, me and a one-legged Dean Neuman taking out six hotshots with a lot of hustle and fire... probably my favorite volleyball moment.))
Actually, I skiied for 21 years, and, though it pains me to admit, I can bring it even better on skis than a board.
Happy New Year, guys, and thanks for the comments. It absolutely tickles me that you guys read this shit, and I love the responses.
Hey, Obi-Wan... that wipeout of yours was Hall Of Fame. It is etch in my mind forever
Holy shit do I know the feeling. Sick as a dog and I haven't slept in about 47 days. All I can do is lay around feeling sorry for myself and hope that one day my lungs will clear out and I will breathe again.
