Don't move your lips, just shake your hips
Big Sky reported 11 inches at 6 a.m. and it was still coming down at an inch an hour until noon.
I actually went to work from 7:30 until 9, sweating under my clothes because I was wearing "optimistic long underwear" underneath.
When two people independently stopped by my office and said, "I would have lost a bet today;" and "What the hell are you doing here?" I reconsidered my corporate duty to make money for the shareholders and headed for the hills.
What can I say?
Between the windload, and just generally knowing the mountain like the back of my hand, I was literaly wiping snow from my goggles so I could see as I barreled down the mountain at speed.
I was getting what is known as "Face Shots," which is when the snow from the front of your board or skis hits your face and you cannot see for a second until the next turn.
It was the best day of the season, by consensus of everyone I saw. At noon, all of the locals were lined up around the bar (it is a Wednesday), toasting each other as the snow melted off of our jackets, faces and laughing.
My iPod soundtrack today was courtesy of the Rolling Stones. I listened to Beggar's Banquet and Exile.
Today was a good day, and it reminded me that all can be good in the world.
Do what you love. Do it with friends. Do it as well as you can. If it makes you happy, and it doesn't interfere with anyone else's bliss, then go. Go. Go.
Work is a means to an end for most of us. If you truly love your work, you are a lucky, lucky person.
Last I checked, all of the openings for rock star, stunt driver and professional snowboarder were filled. So, I am just going to keep on doing what I am doing... the best I can to make myself as happy as can be with the time I am given.
Now, if you'll excuse me, my guitar teacher is here, and we're going to go learn some John Lee Hooker songs.
Be well.
